We’re excited to share important updates from the PEBLES project (Prospective Epidermolysis Bullosa Longitudinal Evaluation Study), offering valuable insights into pain experienced by people living with (RDEB).
Pain is one of the most challenging aspects of living with RDEB. It can be constant and overwhelming, triggered by tissue or nerve damage, and often worsens during medical procedures or daily activities. This pain has a huge impact on quality of life, making effective treatment options a top priority.
The PEBLES study has shed light on the incidence, intensity, frequency, and affected areas of pain in RDEB. These findings are vital as they help guide future clinical trials and highlight the urgent need for better pain management solutions.

Closer look at pregabalin for pain relief
Another study explored how pregabalin could help manage nerve-related pain in RDEB. This research revealed a significant reduction in pain levels after pregabalin treatment compared to a placebo and minimal side effects, making it a potentially safe option.
While more research is needed, this study shows promise for using pregabalin to improve the lives of those with RDEB.
